Car Stereos: vb101pk, two subs, channel amp

Question
I have a 1000 watt (500 rms) v418xt amp hooked up to a 1000 watt (500 rms) enlosure with two subs in it. I also have the vb101pk pack, both the amp and the sub, both 300 watts (but I don't know the rms). If I hook the 300 watt sub from the pack up to my 1000 watt amp along with my other two subs, will I be in danger of hurting the  300 watt sub?

Answer
Hi Tyson,

As the V418XT is a 4-channel amp, I'm not certain how you currently have it connected to your subwoofer enclosure.

If your dual sub box just has a single terminal set, and it's connected to the amp in bridged mode, then you should only be using two of the amplifier's four channels.  In that case, you can wire the additional subwoofer to one of the leftover channels, or bridge the two channels for the sub.  This allows you to adjust the gain controls separately so that the smaller sub doesn't have to get the same power as the larger box.

On the other hand, you may have the 4-channel amp bridged down to two channels, connected separately to the two subwoofers.  If so, then you don't have any leftover amplifier channels, and it would be a bad idea to try to add the new sub to the mix.  This could certainly result in damage to the amplifier or the subwoofer.

Hope this helps!
