Car Stereos: ampage?, watts rms, alpine type x

Question
i have two Alpine SWX-1243D 12" Subwoofers Dual 4 ohm. What would be the best amp (and cheepest) to power them to thier full performence

Answer
Hi,

The Alpine Type-X subwoofers are rated for 1000 watts RMS, and with two of that model, you're going to be looking for an amp that can produce close to 2000 watts RMS into a 4 ohm or a 1 ohm load.  Amplifiers that can deliver that kind of power into 4 ohms are very rare indeed, so you'll probably want to look for a 2000-watt, 1-ohm stable amplifier.

One of the most popular lines of 1-ohm stable amplifiers is Hifonics.  Their BXi-2008D or BXi-2010D is rated to produce 2000 watts RMS into a 1-ohm load.

Alternately, you might want to consider buying two separate amplifiers rated for 1000 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and use one amp for each sub.  Alpine's MRP-M1000 mono amplifier would work very well for this purpose.

Thanks for the question.
