Car Stereos: No sound from speakers on Izuzu Rodeo, speaker wiring, rear speaker

Question
I ask this questions a couple of days ago, but I need to add to it.
I have a 2000 Rodeo. Stereo sound cut out while driving down the road. There is power to radio and cd and shows it functioning properly but no sound. Both audio fuses look fine.
There also is a whine coming from the rear speaker regardless if the stereo is on or not. The whine goes away while driving when you apply the brake. The whine continues in the rear speaker when the car is off. We have had to take out the brake fuse to make it stop and not kill the battery when the car is parked.

Answer
Hi Erin,

If taking out the brake fuse makes the whine stop, you're looking at a fair bit of work to fix it, as it means the issue is either bad wiring to the brake, or poor shielding of the speaker wire.

Your options are to find the wiring issue with the brake lights, or to run fresh new speaker wire to the speakers with better shielding on them.

As for the cutting out, this would suggest that the speaker wiring is already gone bad, and should be fixed/replaced anyway.
