Car Stereos: Memory cable for 1998 rav4, mp3 cd player, panasonic cq

Question
I own a 1998 Toyota Rav4 and recently replaced the original audio system with a Panasonic CQ-C1333U mp3 cd player/receiver but I cannot find the memory cable in the rav4 that prevents the player/receiver from returning to default settings each time the ignition is switched off. Can u help me in locating the vehicle memory cable or explaining any alternatives that I can utilise?"

Answer
Hi,

There is no such thing as a 'memory' cable.  There is simply a 12V constant wire which provides 12V of electricity to the deck at all times -- even when the car is off.  With that, the deck is able to store its settings and never lose them.

If you're losing your settings, but the deck is working, it means you've probably crossed the accessory with constant wires.  Switch the car wires that are connected to the deck's red and yellow wires, and you should be good to go.
