Car Stereos: staic in my tweeters, pioneer cd player, legacy amp

i had my system installed professionally, and after 18 months i have static in my tweeters. i have a 600 watt legacy amp with a pioneer cd player and a set on 12" speakers with 2 tweeters over the front doors. i can't turn the radio up past about 7 before it starts to static

Oh man.  After 18 months, it's tough to pinpoint such a thing.

It sounds above all else that the speaker itself has blown.  Check its connections to the stereo and amp (or to the deck if that's what it's connected to.  If the connections appear OK, try switching the left with right at its connection.  If the static stays in the same speaker, you've likely got a blown speaker and need to replace it.
