Car Stereos: car speakers, cardboard material, factory speakers

Question
I have recently purchased a 2008 brand new honda civic. After only having the car for one week i decided to get my windows tinted. I have noticed that my back speakers under the rear window seem to be rattiling or are making a ticking. I know when having them tinted they sprayed something on my rear window. Now im very mad because they told me water and soap was what was used on the windows. And i belive that damaged my brand new speakers. What should i do im returning tomarrow for them to take a look at my speakers which i KNOW are messed up.

Answer
Hi Rita.

I understand how you feel, i personally take out the speakers when i tint the back window, its innevitable to not get any water on the seats and back deck, so i always try to cover them or remove them, tho i use baby shampoo and i know it wont damage anything if i get it wet due to its neutral PH heh, if it doesnt hurt your baby's eyes it shouldnt hurt your  upholstery, its totally their responsibility to cover for the expenses and they should honor their warranty on their labor, they should know better then that... they have no bussiness doing window tint if they dont take care of what they are doing. most of the factory speakers are made of some cardboard material, so if you get them wet, its just like if u wet any piece of hard cardboard, plus if water got inside the coils and you turned the car radio on before it got dry it might have shorted something out, since water conducts electricity. Have them replace the speakers for free, or call the dealership and ask for an estimate, like i said they must pay for all the damage they caused.

Regards.
