Car Stereos: display only turns on with headlights, no sound, wire harnesses, toyota corolla

I have a 1994 Toyota Corolla and recently bought a Pioneer CD Deck. I twisted the wires together from the deck to the car because i cut off the wire harnesses to the car. Problem is...the deck only turns on when i turn on the headlights and there is no sound.

Hi Kevin,

If it's only working when the lights are on some wires have definitely been crossed and hooked up wrong.  I'd suggest repairing the factory harness back to the way it was (by matching the colours back and putting it back together, and buying an aftermarket harness which will ensure that everything gets hooked up correctly.
