Car Stereos: factory stereo, chevy malibu, factory stereo

Hello, I recently purchased a replacement factory stereo for my '04 chevy malibu, but when i installed it the information screen displayed a LOCKED message.  I came to find out that this is a theft deterrent, my question is:  is there a way that this replacement stereo can be programmed to work in my car?  your expert input on the matter is greatly appreciated.

The good news is, yes, you will almost definitely be able to use it.

The bad news is, it'll probably cost you some money to make it so.  You'll need to contact a local dealership with your car's VIN #, and the deck's model number (and possibly its serial number).  They will either be able to give you its unlock code, or have you bring it in, and will unlock it for you.
