Car Stereos: harness/wiring, chrysler seabring, factory radio

I have an original radio for 1998 chrysler seabring but hear no sound from speakers.  radio some on but no sound. i want to put a kenwwod stereo but dont know how to get wires hooked up  and new kenwood fit nicely into dash since space is so big . pls help

Hi Hal,

It'd make sense to ensure you can get the speakers working before replacing the deck so you aren't left guessing as to what exactly the issue is.

First, is all of the system factory at this point?  Factory harness plugged into factory radio, and still no sound?  If that's the case, you might have a dead factory deck on your hands.  Alternatively, if it has a factory amplifier, it might be your issue.

Buy an aftermarket harness for the car, and use it as a guide to show you where the factory speaker wires go.  Then, hook wires up to one pair of factory speaker wires, and touch the two ends to a double-a battery.  Run your finger along the battery.. you should hear static out of the speaker.

If you do not, it's either an amp, speaker, or wire problem.  If you do, then you've got a dead factory deck on your hands; just replace it.

Start there, and see where you find yourself.
