Car Stereos: How to install around Nissan/Clarion stock system, nissan 240sx, stock system

Question
I'm replacing the factory deck in my 1995 Nissan 240sx SE.  I purchased a wiring harness, put it all together and hooked it up, but I have no sound.  The deck turns on but I am getting nothing from the speakers.  I put the stock deck back in and it works great.  From what I understand these Nissans are complicated because they came with an upgraded Clarion system, involving amplifiers in the back.  The only information I have found on the net involves rewiring these amps (bypassing them) and running new power lines to the deck.  All of the other information on websites such as InstallDR is different than my wiring harness.  Do you have any better ideas or know how to install a new unit on the stock Nissan Clarion system.

Answer
Hi Chris,

It depends on whether you want to keep the factory amplifier around or not.

If you do not, then the best suggestion I would have would be to run fresh speaker wire from the deck to the speakers, and just bypass all of the aftermarket amplification.

If you do, then you'll need to buy a factory amplifier integration kit.  They're available at most car stereo shops, and online.  Using this, you should be able to use an aftermarket deck.  (They should go for $20-50 depending on where you get them.)

Good luck,
Justin
