Car Stereos: antenna motor, power antenna, aftermarket radio

Question
I have a 1994 Toyota truck. The antenna motor doesn't work at all .... no noise when the ignition is turned n or off or the radio is turned on. I just had a new radio installed & I was told that the antenna is hooked up & wired correctly. ???
Do you think it is the motor?
How do I go about changing it if it is?
Thanks for your help!!!

Answer
Hi Sami,

If the aftermarket radio was just installed, and the antenna worked before with the factory deck, and the antenna never worked with the new deck, then it was almost certainly not installed correctly.

Aftermarket decks usually have a power antenna hookup on them to provide power to the relay that pushes the antenna up.  If the aftermarket deck is missing one, then you can hook it up to the 'remote' wire, which the aftermarket deck will almost certainly have.

The amount of work involved in replacing the motor if it is in fact the issue would be a better question for the mechanic, as I've never replaced any antenna motors before, and the amount of work and know-how involved is different for all cars.

Good luck,
Justin
