Car Stereos: Remove CD player from 2001 Tahoe, gm unit, harness clips

Question
Ed, can you give me advice on this? I'm pretty handy, but don't want to tear up the dash.
My factory CD player is acting up (works about half the time I want it), and I'm thinking about replacing it with another GM unit or after-market.

Answer
You can simply pull the dash panel off with little effort. You may or may not have to lower your tilt wheel in order to do this. The dash panel is held in with retaining clips which do not require any screws or  fancy maneuvering to remove. The radio itself is held in with 2 push down clips. When replacing the radio with an aftermarket system be sure to make a note where the wire harnesses rest because you will need to put them back in order to fit any DIN style reciever. Aftermarket conversion kits (panels, harness clips, ect ect) can be bought by at any Auto Stereo shop. If you want to make your installation as simple as possible, go visit, www.crutchfield.com and order a conversion kit Also, AND, you need to shut it off in D1 so you can get the top dash over the shifter arm.
