Car Stereos: car amp, kicker amp, channel amps

Question
i've just purchased a 900 watt kicker amp to power kicker dual 10" subs.  I replaced the previous amp with the new one , all wiring and gauge are correct.  when i power up the system it works for about 30 seconds then goes into a protection mode(green and red lite flashing) if i reboot the system it works for 30 sec's and goes into protection mode again.  I tried disconnecting all the inputs and outputs leaving just the power, ground and rem wires but the same result.  Do you think its a faulty amp?  the previous amp worked for the last year with all the current wiring  Tyhank You

Answer
Hi Anthony

Looks like you might be right, one thing you need to check first how do you have wired your subs. see depending on your amp if its a 2 channel or a mono block, some 2 channel amps are not 1 ohm mono or 4 ohm stereo, so you need to check whats the current impedance on your subs, that could be a reason why your amp was going into protection and also the cause of the current malfunction, but if you disconnected all outputs and inputs then it must be the amplifier thats shorting out internally, since its a 900 watt i assume its an older version because they stopped making those, so i dont know if you can get it warrantied.

Good Luck!
