Car Stereos: Wiring Diagram?, land rover discovery, alpine cda 9883

Question
I have a 1998 Land Rover Discovery LE and i just recently installed a Alpine CDA-9883, KickerS12L7, and a Pioneer Premier Amplifier. For some reason i cannot get the speakers working. Any reason for this?

Answer
Hi Paul,
Assuming you are using the factory speakers and the factory wiring to connect to the speakers, the most of the Discovery's I've seen have common grounded speakers (meaning each speaker has one "hot" lead feeding from the deck and the other leads are all either chassis grounded or all come to a single common lead at the deck)  Most high power decks and aftermarket amps all run floating ground leads to the speakers.. if you wire it common ground, it's effectively shorting out the amp/deck. This would explain why you are getting no output.. the amp is likely trying to protect itself.
There's a couple ways to address this problem, you can add a common ground to floating ground adaptor which you can find at http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9KnciGu6JAW/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?g=751&avf=Y or you can string fresh new leads to each speaker. I highly recommend running new lines.. it's more work, but will allow you to put some serious power to the speakers.  (the adaptor can limit how much power gets to the speakers)
It's quite a project, but will be worth it!
Ciao,
