Car Stereos: car audio, channel amp, rca jacks

Question
hello was hoping you can help me,Im having problems with my system.i just bought a pair of 6.5 polk db component speakers about a month ago and the sound drops dramatically after a few minutes from the front channels, does'nt cut out completely but something is defenitely wrong. I replaced the crossovers once already thinking that may have been the problem it worked for a couple of hours and then the same thing happened. cant imagine its the crossovers again so i replaced the radio thought it might of been a bad preamp output on the back of the radio. (not the problem) checked the four channel amp (not the problem) all of my wiring is tight and secure. been through the whole thing three times and cant figure it out. i also checked the rear speakers (5.25)seem to be fine as well. i have talked to guys at circuit city, bestbuy and you know how that goes its time i ask somebody who knows what they're talking about so if you have any ideas to what the problem might be i would greatly appreciate some experianced help thanks again.

Answer
Hi Adam.

Well if you are positive that the radio and the amp its not the problem then that isolates the problem.
im gonna try to tell you some things that you can check for might help, might not :) but its worth a try.

are the cossovers rated at a certain wattage?
are you putting to much power to the component sets?.

that would be 2 things to check but im also pretty sure that it has to be with a signal problem check the RCA jacks might be a bad conection or a damaged wire.

try switching the front sides to the back on the amp if the problem duplicates on the back then thats it.

also to make sure that the crossovers are good bypass them hook the amp straight to the speaker just lower the gain a little and dont turn the volume up too much. that way if the same problem persists its not the crossover and that only leaves us with one thing to check.

The Amp.

check the outputs on the amp by hooking up another speaker available, or even better switch the front outputs to the rear outputs. (ej. if the front speakers are playing on channel 1,2 switch them to 3,4 and the 3,4 to the 1,2... makes sense?.) if the problem persists but now on the back speakers you have found the problem (hopefully?).

try that man and let me know if still cant figure it out ill try to come up with something else.

Best regards.
