QUESTION: Could i run 2 12" subs with an an rms of 1000 combine on a mono amp at 1 ohm or would i have to do 2 ohm?
thanks

Answer
It is completely dependent on whether or not the amplifier in question is capable of remaining stable and is able to dissipate enough heat to keep from self destructing at a 1 ohm mono load. Remember that when an amp is bridged into a specific impedance load, it behaves like it sees HALF the load...meaning if your speakers are wired to deliver a 1 ohm load to the amp, the amp will behave like it has a 1/2 ohm load...It better have one wicked heat sink or some major fans. Also remember that in many cases the lower the impedance loads on a "normal" amp, the poorer it delivers sound quality... the more speakers you have in the circuit, the higher the dampening factor and the less "control" the amp will have on the speakers, reducing the sound quality and "tight" response that I personally LOVE with my subs. ( I refuse to run my amps below 4 ohms mono, even if they're rated to 1/2 ohm )
