Car Stereos: replacing factory speaker with amp, chrysler town, happy hunting

Question
I have a '98 Chrysler Town & Country LXi. The rear Infinity 6x9 speaker has an integrated amp, and the amp no longer works. I can't seem to find a replacement speaker for this unless I spend $175 (for one) ordering from Chrysler. The speaker itself is fine when plugged in to another stereo (my son's vehicle), so it may be that integrated amp. What are my options so that I can get the sound back? I have searched for used speakers from junkyards to no avail. I would like to know what kind of speaker would be a good replacement or if I should just shell out the money for a factory replacement. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Mishelle,
Your options are limited...For $175.00 you could probably buy a half decent aftermarket CD player for the Chrysler and have the installer bypass the Infinity amps on the rears altogether. Or replace the speaker...
Sounds like you already know your options. I can't tell you what speakers to buy.. you already know what size will fit.. you have to let your ears decide now.. Go make a trip to a few stereo shops, bring some of YOUR own music that you are familiar with and LISTEN to the speakers....that is the best way to choose.. set your budget with the sales guy up front and ask to listen to at least 3 different speakers. Then do the same with at least 2 other stereo places.
Happy hunting and protect your ears.. they're the only ones you get. :)
