Car Stereos: Error Message, pontiac sunfire, hot humid climate

Question
QUESTION: I own a 1998 pontiac sunfire, and the stock cd player gives me an E 20 message every time i put in a cd
what should i do to fix it?
ANSWER: hi kirk,

what else is the cd player doing? you did not state if it plays CDs or not....this is an old unit, so there is a lot of wear and tear; the lens may be too dirty to read the disc...it can be as simple as the disc is dirty....do the other functions still work? some radios tend to get a bit finicky after years of use. or a simple reset is all that may be needed. you can unplug the - battery terminal for about 1 min and reattach it. this is the universal reset, but sometimes this is all it takes to restore proper function. this has saved me countless hours of troubleshooting time.

QUESTION: everything works, the cd's are clean, i just cant't play cd's because E20 comes up then spits the cd out, I could try the reset thing, any other suggestions?

Answer
hi kirk,

the e20 message means a possible hardware problem; weather has a big part of that(especially heat) and how long components will last. if you live in a hot/humid climate this will wreak havoc on stereos.

keep me posted....

i would try resetting as mentioned above; you can also try a reset by removing the + battery terminal the same way....
