Auto Racing: p71, mechanical diode, overdrive band

Question
i've got a 2000 crown vic p71 and i'd like to start adding performance parts to it. the problem is that i'm having a hard time finding out what has already been done to the car from the factory and i don't want to get redundant. any help is appreciated.
i'm a novice at this but i do have access to knowledgable people through family, but none are pro's. if you can give any advice on what to add and where to start please do. i want this thing to haul ass and still look like a stock police vehicle. thank you.

The P71 package isn't a huge upgrade over the LX Sport models during any given model year.  They have a "high flow" dual exhaust (yeah right...factory high flow exhaust), a performance suspension, a more aggressive computer tune by way of a better chip, and I believe a few heavy duty transmission upgrades (like a mechanical diode and wider overdrive band).  So basically it leaves something to be desired as far as power goes.  As for upgrades...it's tricky since modular (Ford's overhead cam) motors haven't enjoyed a ton of aftermarket support until just the last couple of years and parts are still rather expensive (why is beyond me...they've been using the motors for well over a decade).  But most Mustang engine parts of the same style will fit onto a Vic engine (heads, intakes, etc.).  I've even seen a few supercharged Crown Vics here and there.  I do think, however, that that would require more fabrication than the average enthusiast would care to undertake.  If it were my car, I'd grab an intake, have the heads ported and polished, and get some better cams along with some good exhaust parts.  Some companies even sell head/intake packages.  You might check out Sean Hyland Motorsports seeing as how they're the current rulers of all things modular when it comes to Fords.  They do excellent work and will know exactly what will fit your car.  Hope this helps.
