Auto Racing: mustang motor, msd 6a, vacuum leak

Question
im about to buy a 1990 mustang gt that has had the block removed and bored .040. Forged pistons put in. trick flow twisted wedge heads. 1.7 rocker rollers, f-303 cam, eldebrock upper and lower intake, 75mm throttle body, and 75 maf.

Ok now the motor is still fresh about 1000 miles on it. when started it has a miss in it, can tell when driving too. im thinking the its all in the timing, the distributor is original and looks to be off a tooth and not so hot looking. If i change the ignition system to a msd 6a box with a blaster coil and msd distributor would that help it out. After i corrected the timing.
Do you think this is the problem or is the setup just not right.

Answer
Brad-

While an F-303 cam and a .040" overbore wouldn't be what I'd have gone with for that combo, I'm sure that's not what's causing the miss.  If it's a timing issue, a full MSD setup would correct that so long as you install the distributor properly.  The problem could also be a vacuum leak (especially if the miss becomes less noticeable at moderate-high rpms) or the cam could have been degreed wrong when installed.  I'd check out the timing issue first...always go with your gut first and try everything else later.  Besides, a stock ignition setup isn't doing that motor any favors in the first place.  Hope this helps.
