BMW Repair: 2000 BMW 5281 battery and GM, gm car, motor werks

Car battery I think is dead. After car sits awhile without driving, it needs to be jumped. I noticed that the LED light on the gear shift was staying on all the time instead of turning off after so many minutes. Now everything is dead. The warning flasher does not work either. Do I have more problems then just the battery? They have a list of what and what not to do when jumping. Is the GM a big deal to fix  Thanks

If the Shift light does not power off after 60 min then the car is not going into sleep mode, thats one issue that needs to be addresed because that will drain the battery, to replace the GM is easy but you need a GT1 or ss programing station to code the new module.
