BMW Repair: trunk access/remove back seat, 1987 bmw 325e, luggage compartment

i need to access my trunk on a 1987 bmw 325e. the lock is broken. how do i remove the upper portion of the back seat and will that get me into the trunk?

Hello Ed,
To remove the rear back rest, remove the rear seats first, then remove the bolts or nuts in the lower area of the back rest, pull up the back rest to unhook and remove.
Now you know if you can get into the luggage compartment.
If you see diagonal frames then you may be able to. Just punch out the center trim/cover and you are in business.
Frankly, I have not done this maneuver yet.
