BMW Repair: fault codes, bmw brake pads, rear brake caliper

Question
I have a 97' 328i convertible.I have a check control light that comes on periodically that says "brake light circuit"I've changed all the bulbs and my brake lights always work fine. Now the other day a round circle with 3dots on each side came on in the instrument panel,I believe its for brake pads but my pads are not squeaking or grinding and do not feel bad at all!Can you please help me?

Answer
Sondi, does the third brake light in the middle work, people often over look this aswell as the license plate lights. The brake lining is a different issue entirely. There is a lining wear sensor on the left front and right rear brake caliper. When the pads get down to 3mm left the sensor wears through and triggers the light. Take the car in and have the brake linings measures aswell as the rotor thickness. Replace the pads and sensor at minimum and I recommend the rotors too on the affected axle (front or rear). I prefer the BMW brake pads (Jurid or Textar) even though they create a lot of dust. I haven't found any pad that stops your car faster.
