BMW Repair: P1582 Code - Throttle Position Sensor, throttle position sensor, hose clamps

Question
Mr. Evan, thanks for your time, I'm having a similar problem to one of your prior articles, on the DSC and EML lights coming on and dropping the car into safe mode. I have a 2000 323I (E46) Production date 11/99 . Initial cranking of car, the EML and DSL lights come on - very low and hard idling, after warming up, I turn the car off, I pump the Gas 4 times with the car in off position and restart, sometimes it works on the first try and sometimes I have to attempt 3 or 4 more times. The car cranks with a steady and increased idle and the DSC and EML light go off for a period of time; while driving, when i engage the throttle or when the idle drops, the lights come back on and the car falls back into safe mode, sometimes i can't go over 10 miles per hour and other times up to 50 mph. Do you recommend I change throttle body and Idle Control Valve ? Evan, this did not start happening until I had a repair shop, change out the crankcase exhaust valve per a Service Bulletin. Could I have broken line ?

Thanks again Evan, I appreciate your time.

Answer
Eric, I would have the shop check their work and make sure everything is correctly installed. The throttle fault is most likely a predrive check fault. I would either clean with solvent or replace the idle valve. Check the throttle boot for tears. If the rubber is hard and brittle I would replace it anyway with some new hose clamps. Test drive drive and if the symptom continues replace the throttle body.
