BMW Repair: Radio code, radio code, vin number

Question
The battery was replaced in my 1984 318i. Now the radio has no reception. Is there a code that needs to be punched in? If so, how do I get it.

 On most BMW's thre is an antitheft system on the radio's, if power is lost to the radio (some one steals your radio) you have to put a code in to ge the radio to work.

 Your radio should beep or something telling you to put the code in, and I'm not sure if the '84 BMW's had this system.  

 I dont think this is your problem, but you can try.  Take your VIN number and call the dealership.  They should be able to give you a code based on the VIN, if your car uses one.
