BMW Repair: Window motor question, 1993 bmw 740il, bmw 740il

Question
1993 BMW 740IL  Last seven of VIN= DE86207
I realize you mentioned that you deal primarily with newer BMW's but this is probably a generic question.  I press the down switch on the window (either at the console or on the door itself) and the window does not move.  All other windows operate fine.  Since all other switches are working, I am assuming the offending problem is the motor.  A friend suggested that the problem might also be a bad regulator, which begs the question "What is the difference between the motor and the regulator?"  If the issue is the motor, what should I expect to pay for the part?  Thanks!

Answer
Frank the regulator is the window lifter mechanism. The motor is as it sounds. It is the driver of the regulator. BMW window regulators in the later models are notoriously bad, but the earlier ones like yours are much better. Although the motors on the older cars are crappy and the newer ones aren't so bad.
The drivers window motor part number is 51 33 1 388 611
I couldn't get a price.
