BMW Repair: trunk wont open., cell phone charger, safety pins

Question
Hi Evan,
I have a '99 528i that suddenly won't open the trunk while using the button on the master key, the switch on the center console or the actual trunk switch above the hood lever. I can only open it by inserting the key in the back.
I haven't noticed any electrical issues. All the lights, seats, mirrors, etc. are working properly. I read some answers you had for a previous question and all I can say is that I did leave a cell phone charger plugged in for a week.
I mention that because you brought it up. To give more detail, I got in the car in the morning, popped the trunk, closed it, drove for 2 hours, tried to open the trunk but couldn't. I've only owned the car for a few weeks, so I don't know if this is a recurring issue. The previous owner tells me he never noticed anything.
Could it be a fuse?
I would appreciate your input on this.

Thanks,
Franklin

Answer
Franklin, remove the trunk lid trim and remove the trunk lock actuator connector. Using very small safety pins cut in half put them into the connector and have someone activate the release button and see if you have voltage at the connector. If you do have the signal at the connector then replace the lock actuator. The cell phone thing is not a concern if the vehicle battery in not discharging.
