BMW Repair: car doors wont open, bmw 535i, 1989 bmw 535i

The battery in my son's 1989 bmw 535i died because the car had not been started for a couple of weeks. AAA came out and couldnt get it to start. The remote would not lock the door so I used the regular key to lock the door...NOW the key will not unlock the door.  Please help!!!  I called the bmw dealer and was told things about lifting the door handle while turning the key but nothing works.

 This is not uncommon for older cars to experience problems with the door locks, they get old, and corroded.

 Did you try the passenger's side door to see if it would unlock?  If non of the doors will unlock, then you're cheapest route would be to call a locksmith, and have him open the door.  He will slide a "slim jim" down beside the glass, unlock the door without using a key.  This should cost ~$50.00, but could vary depending on where you live.

 Just remember not to LOCK the doors until you can figure out why the door locks dont work.
