BMW Repair: 1994 bmw 325is, bmw 325is, engine computer

Question
I left the car outside in a recent 2 day rain and water somehow got into the passenger footwell.  The electrical system has gone haywire - the car starts but can't maintain consistant idle, sputters at high rpms, burns fuel(heavy white smoke, smells like a chain saw) and tachometer sometimes goes nuts w/ needle bouncing around by itself. I am trying to dry out the car. Where is the leak and will the car be ok once it drys out?

Answer
Matthew, You have water in the Electronics box (E-box). There is an repair procedure to seal and increase the drainage capacity in the box. Your engine computer (DME)is saturated w/water. Please dry out and clean terminals with electronic cleaner. Go to local dealer and ask them to perform Service Information Bulletin (SIB) 41 03 93. Should be charged no more than 5 hours labor + parts. Ask for the bulletin if you wish to perform the bulletin yourself. SIB will have all needed parts and outline procedure.
