BMW Repair: BMW 323i power loss, torx screws, hose clamps

Question
Hi there,

I have a bmw 323i 1999 model and when its been on for around 40 - 50 minutes, i
loose alot of bottom end torque. The car will struggle to move at low rpms, even
though my foots down all the way on the acceleratior. However, when the engine
is semi-hot (approx. 5 - 40 minutes of being turned on) the car will run like a
dream. Any solutions?"

Answer
Billy, Does your car idle normally when cold? If is idles a little funny or very poorly the I suspect your idle valve is sticking. Remove the intake housings and ducts. Remove the duct to the Throttle and idle valve. Hose clamps are 6mm. You will also have to remove the square black resonance flap and connector. It it bolted to the top/side of intake manifold and held in by T-40 torx screws. Remove the idle valve and throttle and clean them out with a good solvent. You should hear the door flapping around when rapidly twisting the valve in hand. Replace any torn intake boots. Your problem also sounds like the trans could be in failsafe mode (only 4th & 5th gears). Any dashlights on? Problems starting? Make sure your battery is in good condition and alternator is charging.
