BMW Repair: Transmission, salvage yard, rear wheels

Question
I own a 1992 325i w/an automatic transmission; I recently moved accross country via a moving truck and trailed my 325i on th back of the truck, however it was a trailer where the front wheels were on the trailer and the rear wheels still on the ground, while the car was in nuetral; after arriving i got in my car to drive, everything was fine, however after about three blocks, the transmission went out, the engine was running fine, but the car was like it would be in nuetral, wheather in drive or if i put it down to 1st or 2nd gear; i was receommended to check the transmission fluid, however, for the life of me I cannot find the transmission fluid dip stick, can you let me know where to locate it, also any other suggestion as to what the problem may be?

Thanks,

Peter Osusky

Answer
The transmission dipstick probably is not there as it may be a transmission that does not require checking or replacement of fluid.I don't believe that it should have been hauled with a dolley.Allowing the wheels to spin with out it running starves the transmission of oil as the pump doesn't spin.Unfortuantely I think you have damaged your transmission.Best advice is to take it to a transmission shop. You may be able to find one in a salvage yard.
