BMW Repair: Transmission, 1993 bmw 525i, salvage yard

1993 BMW 525i
The Trans program warning light comes on, the car is locked in gear.When I turn the car off and start later on the car is fine. There is no rhyme or reason to when this happens. Has not happened in about 3-4 months then it happened 2-3 times in the last week. Took car to BMW dealer for them to evaluate was told in 20 minutes I need new trans. Took to Aamco they said trans is fine but couldn't find problem because car was not in that trans mode when I brought in, need to bring in when it does this. Problem is never can do that once the car is shut off it's fine. Any advice? thanks

As the transmission is electically shifted I believe you do have a problem with it.You need to go to a good transmission shop and have it diagnosed.The other problem.I'm not sure where.You may need to go to a salvage yard and find  one there it will be alot less than new.
