Hi!my rear window dosent wanna go up i can hear the motor turn on when i try to close the window i had it look at the they said something about pulley broken is that imposible to do by myself?i have a 2000 323i bmw.  Thank you...Alain

Hi there,

It's not impossible to do yourself if you are fairly handy with this sort of thing. You have to remove the door panel/card taking care not to damage any of the panel pins whilst doing so. When you have the door panel off, remove (again carefully) the insulation skin to gain access to the door itself.
You might find that the window has come off the rails or one of the unions in the mechanism has detached. If so, you need to check why as if there is a bend in the regulator mechanism you might as well replace it as straightening out the bend only lasts a short time. Once the metal has a weak spot it will always go there again.
It's a case of trial and error with regulators, as they can be as frustrating as hell to line up to the door/window. You might have to unbolt the mechanism from the door to get it to line up and then re-bolt it to the door. Have a play with it and when you do, take time to study how it operates as though it seems simple, it can be a complex system of levers that, when understood, makes fixing them easier.
