BMW Repair: 1992 325i shuts down-no restart for 45 min, fuel filter replacement, hydraulic transmission

Question
Thanks for the reply! I've had the car in a shop after the last shut down because I couldn't restart. Had it towed and the ran feul pressure tests and found nothing feul related. When the car shuts down it goes completely quiet and all warning lights are off except for the electronic shift control for the automatic-hydraulic transmission. The shop also checked my battery and all wires and cables running to and from. They can't get the car to die again as it restarted afer being towed. The shop doesn't know what it is and I have to wait until it dies again before they will do anything else. Tired of being stuck with no car. Help!

Question -
When in drive or in idle, I am experiencing shut-downs and cannot restart for appx. 45 min <no turnover>. I've had the Fuel Regulator checked in a local shop and recently replaced the fuel filter. The shut downs weren't as often after the fuel filter replacement but have returned. I haven't had the fuel pressure checked yet. Don't know if this is the right track or not. Recently had transmission downshift problems but used TransX and seemed to releive that issue. 3 shops are clueless without tearing into engine at a large cost to me. Help please!

S Fox,
I need to know what the car does when it "shuts down".  Does it just cut off, like you turned off the key, or does it sputter and slowly die?

If it's the latter, then fuel could be the issue... if its the first one... then that sounds electrical.

Get back with me on the symptoms and we will go from there .

 Thanks,
 Josh

Answer
S Fox,
Unfortunately the Garage is right (for a change) it's probably some loose wire in a jungle of wires that breaks contact some times.

Honestly there isn't anything I can tell you, especially if the mechanics are stumped.

 Good luck,
 Josh
