BMW Repair: Oil pressure sensor, oil pressure switch, honest mechanic

Question
I have a 1989 BMW 525i and the oil pressure sensor light came on this morning.  Is this something expensive to replace and where is it located?  Thanks lela

Answer
Lela,
Fortunately I do know a little about the 89 5-series, but I am more familiar with the 3-series.

The oil pressure switch is located on the passengers side of the engine block, just above the oil pan.  They do go bad, so it's nothing to be alarmed over.

It shouldn't be too expensive, and it should only take a good HONEST mechanic 15 minutes to do... and thats with him taking his sweet time.  Literally, I could do this in 10 minutes from the time you brought the car in the door.

The sensor should be relatively cheap, and you can check prices online.

those are a few sites that should have them
 Good luck,
