Hi,

I have an E36 - 318i - 1994 BMW, I have 2 problems that have happened only recently.

1) The heater blower is on hot all the time and if you turn it to cold its still blows out hot. I have tried to replace the control unit with one from a scrap yard and its was still the same. I first thought it was the faulty Varible resistor that is on the pcb panel on the back of the blower unit controls but looks like it isnt that, can you please help me with this as summer has arrived and it gets really uncomfortable.

2) This problem is that the power windows dont work at all, I went for a drive and they were working and on the way back home they just stopped and the drivers side is half way down at the moment and I cant get it back up. I have checked the 30Amp fuse and that is fine. I would be really grateful if you can help me with any of my problems.

Many Thanks

is it the fan that runs all the time?and is the water valve working?it may be stuck open.As far as the windows go i would look for the  master breaker to see if it had been hit

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply.

The fan is the interior fan it works fine but it is just always blowing out hot air, the temp of the car is fine.

You say that the problem with the windows could be the master breaker, I hope it is this and could you tell me how to diagnose this and where in the car to locate it. Also I have been told it could be a relay but Im not sure which 1?

Answer
The heater conrol valve may be stuck open so that coolant is continuously be passed. Also check to make sure you can hear the doors open or close when the heat is changed from defrost and heat.
With the window problem a voltmeter will tell you if power is to the switches.Start there first
