BMW Repair: 2003 M3 emer. brake, 2003 bmw m3, brake shoes

Question
How do I tighten the emergency brake cable on a 2003 BMW M3?

Answer
If you have never done a brake job before then I don't recomend you doing this, but here are the steps to adjust your e-brake..

1- Remove the rear wheels
2- remove the caliper
3- Disconnect the cable on the brake pad without breaking it
4- Remove the caliper mounting bracket and remove the rotor
5- Inspect the parking brake shoes to see if it is not worn
down to the point where it needs to be replaced
6- Turn the adjustment wheel either clockwise or counter
clockwise to push the brake shoes out.  You will see them
move either in or out when you do this.
7- You want the brake shoes to just barley touch the inside
of the drum which is located on the inside of the rotor
8- Re-install the rotor
9- Re-install the caliper mounting bracket
10-Push the piston back in with a c-clamp to allow room for
the caliper to mount back over the rotor
11-Re-install the shoes and make sure you re-attach the
  cable to the brake pad
12-Re-insatll the caliper
13-Make sure everything is tight
14-Re-install the wheel and tighten lug nuts
15-Repeat same steps for other side

At that point when both sides are done, the hand brake lever should move up about 2-4 clicks when you pull up on it.  Once again, If you have never done a brake job, then I don't recomend you doing it because as you can see it's not complicated but it is not something just anyone can do.  But if you do try it, good luck with it and I hope it works for you.  If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Good luck, Hope this helps
