BMW Repair: Radiator Light, Fan problem and ABS lights, start of a journey, radiator fan

Question
Hi,

I have a BMW 323i SE 1999. There are a few problems which have cropped up over the last 6 months.

1. For the last 3 months when I drive to speeds >85mph for a few minutes the yellow radiator warning light comes on and stays on until my speed has settled to <80mph for about a minute. If I slow right down then it goes off quicker. The car never overheats and the water level is not low. Any ideas?

2. The fan problem started a week ago. Essentially my radiator fan just runs continuously even when the ignition has been turned off. I actually have to physical unplug the power source from under the bonnet to get it to stop. Any suggestions?

3. I took my car to a local mechanic because the wheel beerings needed changing - left rear wheel I think. Since then the ABS warning light comes on intermittently. If it comes on at the start of a journey it will remain on the whole while but often when I next use the car it's gone. What do you think?

Many thanks

Answer
Hi Saj, Ok the first two questions could be solved with one answer because they both might be related.  If your fan stays on constantely and you have to manually unplug it, then your temp switch is going bad.  That's what cut's the fan on and off when it reaches a certin temp.  And that could be what is also keeping your yellow radiator light on.  Get that fixed and I'll bet you both problems will be solved.

If your abs light is comming on after having work done to the bearings, then check and make sure the wire that goes to your break pads are still on.  They might have taken it off to remove the pads and not put it back on right or it might have come back on.  So check that and go from there.

Hope this helps.. Let me know.
