BMW Repair: BMW 325ic wont start, crank angle sensor, fuel pump relay

Question
1990 325ic:
History: The problem occured twice before, but eventualy started after many attempts. Now it cranks but won't start.Battery is new and fully charged. I troubleshot the electrical system and found the fuel pump relay isn't getting it's ground from the MCU. I jumped the relay to ground and relay worked and pump came on, but still wouldn't crank. I checked voltage to coil & OK. The MCU isn't triggering the coil. I check all the voltages/grounds to MCU and all OK. The MCU isn't grounding fuel pump relay nor coil for sparc. I am at my wits end... Any help or direction would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you,
Dustin

Answer
Dusin,
Good work so far, is the MCU/ECU grounded?  Make sure where it's mounted down is clean so the case can be grounded.

Also, check the crank angle sensor.  It's located on the passenger's side of the engine, and it reads the teeth on the harmonic balancer.  If this sensor is bad then it will let the engine turn over, but will not allow it to spark.  This sensor sends a signal to the ECU telling it where the engine is during it's cycle.

 Good luck,
 Josh
