BMW Repair: Opening engine hood, 1987 bmw 325, bmw 325

I have a 1987 BMW 325 and cannot get the hood open.  The cable may have broken as there is no tension on it

Scott,
 unfortunately this happens, but you should be able to get the hood open to replace the cable.

 Standing in front of the car, look at the driver's side headlight.  Just to the left of the light there will be a little opening in the grille.  If you look through this opening, you can see the latch mechanism and use a screwdriver to release it.  Once it's release, the hood could possibly pop forward, so dont have your head right in front of the hood when you release it.
