Answer
OK, First you should be able to stick the key in the door lock and un lock the door like any other car.  If for some reason your car doesn't have a lock on the outside of the door, then you should have a lock on the trunk where you could use the key to unlock the trunk where your battery is.  BMW battries are in the trunk usually on the right side .  There should be a panel that has screws in it, and once you un screw them the panneling will come off and you will see the battry.  You will then be able to jump start the car.  I've never worked on a 740i before, but i know for sure the battery is in the trunk.  It's put there for weight purposes.  Does the 740i not have any locks on the outside of the door??  That's new to me.  I hope this answer helps you out.  Also keep in mind that the remote on the key to lock and unlock the door has a small battry in it, and if it goes dead it will not lock and un lock the doors.  That usually happens when the key is not used for a while.  the battery in the remote charges it's self automatically when the key is in the ignition.  So make sure it's not the remote's battery before you start buying and chanigng car battries.  Feel free to ask anymore questions you might have.  Thanks.
