BMW Repair: 328is warning lights, warning light, warning lights

I bought a 1996 328is with 84,000 miles 2 weeks ago thru private sale. Last week a warning light came on that looks like an airbag light although it is not identified in the manual. Yesterday the check engine light came on. Do I need to have these checked? and should I be worried that I made a bad purchase?

You certainly do need to have them checked.Airbag light means there is a problem and the system has shut itself done.  The check engine light could be trivial or serious but should be checked.
If I had bought the car I would be concerned about what else has been going on with this car.
