BMW Repair: BMW 323i - Battery Light Indicator, bmw 323i, alternater

Hi, Ronald. I just recently bought a 1999 323i - my battery light is lit in yellow today.  Is it time to change the battery?  If so, can I do this on my own or do you have to have a mechanic do the replacement? I've noted from some of the previous posts how to access the battery.  Trying to determine if it's okay to use a standard battery replacement vs. BMW's.  Thanks for your help!

The battery light indicates something wrong in the charging system, not that its time to replace the battery.
Although a shorted battery can cause charging system problems you probably have a alternater going bad and not charging the battery.
Have it checked out by your mechanic.If the system gets too low on volts the car will shut off and not restart.
