-hello,

i tryed the propane deal and the car started for a half a second and stalled.  i never auctal got the car completely running on propane.  if i discount the fuel line going to the fuel rail there is fuel, if i pull the plugs there are not wet, but do have a faint smell of gas.  so that rules out the 2 fuel filters.  i double check the timing and it is on the money. if i pull any of the plugs and leave the spark plug wire attached, touch the plug to a ground, and turn the engine over i get spark from all of the plugs.  and if i pull any of the plugs off put my finger over the spark plug hole and have some one crank the engine i can feel the compreesion. so there is timing, spark, fuel, air, and compession. is there some kind of doide or relay that i might be missing? i got to be something stupid.  mayby something electrail? its got me stumpbed thats for sure.  any help is greatly appericated thank you

hello,
i own a 1984 bmw 318i.  i recieved the car about a month ago.  and up to a week ago it was in running conditon.  the car will turn over but not start.  all of the plugs are getting spark, fuel is getting to all of the cyliers,  all of the fuzes are good, and the timing is on the money.  the plugs are new, as well as the coil and wires, i double checked to make sure everything is on write.  from what i can tell all of the vaccum lines are hooked up. and still nothing.  any help or guideance would be greatly appericated, thank you for your help.

All an engine needs to run is spark, fuel, air and timin. If timing and fuel are present than my suspect would be air.  Be sure your spark plugs are not wet.  Unplug the fuel pump fuse and see if the car starts with starting fluid, if not, the problem is not that air isn't getting their but is in the wrong proportion to the fuel(you can also use propane and it works better BUT: many people blow all the hair and first layer of skin off there face attempting to do this in a garage or leave it on too long, not recomended for the unexperienced).  First step is to single out the problem.  It may also be you or the previous owner put gas in the car that had water in it.  Try the starter fluid and get back to me.

Have you had any work done on it before this problem?
It sounds like it could either be mixture related or you have a restriction in the exhaust somewhere. try unplugging the exhaust, if this doesn't work, as you said the timing, spark and fuel are there, however if that was true, the engine would continue to run.
Either you are wrong about one of the elements or you have a restriction or improper fuel/air ratio the laws of pyhsics says so.

Answer
This problem has me stumped,  Without seeing the readings coming of the gauges, i can't be sure everything you said is OK is in fact OK.  If the car gets fuel, air and spark at the right time, their is no reason it wouldn't start,  one of these components are out of spec; you need to figure it out before i can help you.
sorry, this is just one of those problems i need to see myself to diagnose.
