The vehicle in question is a 1992 Geo Tracker, standard, 2 rwd, 1.6L engine. Just replaced the starter- was push-starting once a day for a week. New CPU and battery as well. I turn the key and the starter turns the crank, but it won't fire. After several attemps, I can smell the fuel (pumped once or twice outta habit)and can hear the pump kick on, so I don't think its the fuel pump. All plug wires are sparking (checked the coil) Curious if it may be the module located on the distributor and if any other possibilities. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Let's see, The starter was shot, But you could push it and it would start.

You installed a new starter and a new CPU and now it WON'T start.

Kinf of tells you that you did something wrong or missed, pinched or broke a wire at the starter or at the CPU or the CPU is faulty.

Can you still push start it.

My bad... The CPU was actually installed a few weeks bfore this issue, and by a certified mech (I was scred to handle that! LOL) It was starting by push but not any longer

Answer
If the ONLY thing you did was replace the starter than there must be a broken wire at the starter.

NOTE: There are usually 2 or 3 rubber coated wires called FUSIBLE LINKS that are connected at the starter post and when shorted these LINKS melt internally and may NOT be visible by looking at them test above the rubber insulation for battery voltage on these LINKS.
