Question about once a day my 1993 chev pickup with 4.3 engine will not start because the fuel pump will not run to get it to start i disconect the fuel pump under the truck by the gas tank and conect it right back again then the pump will start and the truck will start right up. gene
AnswerOK, In most cases you either have a faulty corroded connection within the connector that you are disconnecting and reconnecting or look for a loose single BLACK colored wire of which is attached to the fuel meter assembly on top of the gas tank of which you most likely can't see, And the opposite end of this BLACK wire is attached somewhere close to the fuel tank usually on the vehicles frame with a small screw. This is the GROUND WIRE for the fuel pump and or fuel meter or both depending upon your year and make of vehicle.
However, The fault is usually within the electric fuel pump of which is a very common part failure of which is in the gas tank and requires removal of the gas from the gas tank and removal of the gas tank from the vehicle and finally removal of the fuel meter and fuel pump assembly from within the gas tank for replacement of the intermittent failure of the pump.
The electric pump runs about $60.00 and labor about $250.00. However these prices vary from repair facility to reapair facility and upon geographical loaction of the vehicle.
