GMC Repair: warning lights, reputable facility, optimum efficiency

Question
I have a 1997 geo Tracker, I got the car 1 year ago and it only had 17000 miles on it, these have been verified  as a true reading.
My problem is  the "check engine soon" light.
It has been coming on almost from day one, sometimes just topping off the tank will make it go off and sometimes it just goes off on it's own it has been on now for about 2 weeks. Is there any way to reset this or just turn it off? The mileage now is at 32000 and I have done all the scheduled maintenance. HELP!
          Thanks

Answer
The CHECK ENGINE SOON light is telling you that there is a problem within the computer system of the vehicle.

You will need to get this problem corrected as there are up to 50 possible sensor(s), wiring and numerous other electronic devices within the computer system and one or more of them has failed or is about to fail.

It is NOT adviseable to ignore this light as your vehicle is not operating at optimum efficiency.

I STRONGLY suggest that you have a reputable facility diagnose, Advise and correct the problem of which when corrected the light will go out.

NO, There is no RESET for this warning lamp. Continued driving of the vehicle with the lamp illuminated is causing virtual damage to the vehicles electronics.

You can continue to drive it with the lamp illuminated, But one day the vehicle is going to leave you stranded and this always seems to happen on a friday evening after all the repair facilities are closed and you are far away from home in a severe rain or snow storm.

Get it fixed and make everybody happy.
