Alfa Romeo Repair: Alfa slave cylinder removal, mapp gas torch, clutch side

Question
I have a 1974 spider that is having a clutch problem. It looks like the slave cylinder is leakinf past the piston.  I last rebuilt it about 15 years ago and thought I would be smart to just put in a new one this time.  I hahve removed the clutch side snap ring but can't seem to budge the cylinder.  I am afraid to hit it too hard for fear of breaking thecasting that holds it in.  I have sprayed it with lubricant.  Are there any tricks to getting it out?

Answer
Any vehicle you keep for a long time should have anti-seize compound applied to most metal on metal situations.  In the dealership we have to get the job done quickly, however, at home I like to spray with wd-40 and then vibrate the part with a light weight hammer--spray again and vibrate again the wait a half hour and it should bang out. Otherwise spray again and wait overnight.  If that does not do it apply heat carefully with a mapp gas torch.  (ATF can also be used if you have no wd-40).
