Alfa Romeo Repair: trans linkage, fiat bertone, infro

Question
I'm restoring a 85 fiat bertone. I took the trans out and overhauled it,I've replaced the master and slave cyclinders. flushed the lines. i cannot get the linkage right,5th and reverse seem to grind with release of the clutch, clutch also replaced.I got it to a point yesterday where the forward and reverse would all work but i had to hold it in reverse, today i made the linkage longer and its worse, it grinds when clutch is released.any infro you provide will be greatly appreciated. thanks jb

Answer
The transmission  is bullet proof except for reverse gear.

two other things about the clutch and transmission:  The bushings on the ends of the shaft that has the release fork wear out and cause all kinds of shifting problems--did you replace them--and the hydraulic system must be bled with a power  bleeder attached at the master cylinder reservoir and it is best to use Castrol LMA.

If you do not use the power bleeder as described then there will always be air in the system and grinding when shifting will occur.

As for the linkage: set it up exactly as the book says to do.
