American Motors: Hi Mr. Schurrer. My son has..., wet roads, fish tail

Question
Hi Mr. Schurrer.  My son has driven a 1976 Gremlin for 8 years and loves it. The car is well maintained, has a newer engine, good tires and restored under carriage. Our problem is that he recently received a ticket for 'loss of traction'. It had been raining/snowing and the roads were wet.  As he came around the corner to our house, he fish tailed and was cited.  Having been a Gremlin driver myself years ago, I know wet roads and Gremlins don't always mix.  In our city, loss of traction is considered road racing and his ticket could be $500, or even 90 days in jail.  He was not speeding and was not cited for speeding.  I'm wondering if you have any information we could present to the Judge indicating similar instances with other Gremlin drivers?  Or any other assistance you might be able to provide regarding traction, or loss thereof?  I know it's a long shot, but I would rather he be prepared before appearing before the Judge.  I appreciate any insight you can give us and look forward to hearing back from you.  Happy New Years and Thank You!

Answer
No problem, I have one question was it raining for a while or just started, if it had just started all the oil and dirt on the road has become slick but not washed off the road yet.  It also could be, from what I remember, that Gremlins have more weight on the rear axle than the front causing a fish tail if you are corning a little tight or a little quick.  If he was racing, I don't think the Gremlin would have been able to make the turn, I hope this helps.

Chris.
